ARBOR DAY 2008

PLYMOUTH COUNTY FARM- On Saturday, April 26th Plymouth County Sheriff Joseph D. McDonald Jr. invited the public to the Plymouth County Farm to recognized Arbor Day. The day marked the opening of the greenhouses and Petting Zoo. Take a look below at some of the day's events. It was such a success plans are in the works for a fall festival and to make Arbor Day an annual event. Thank you to the thousand people who participated and remember you can visit the animals throughout the year.

Families gather for the sheep shearing demonstration. Nunzio and his mom lost their coats! They were not too happy; it was a windy day.

Nunzio gets sheared! His skeptical mother looks on; little does she know she's next!

Reptiles invaded the the farm's new greenhouse! Rainforest Reptiles of Beverly brought lizards, snakes, and alligators - oh my!

Lance forgot his hat; the tortoise will do for now.

Volunteer Cameron gets cozy with a boa constrictor!

Twelve baby calves have been born on the farm this spring. Our farm officers brought the little guys out of their barn to enjoy Arbor Day at the Petting Zoo. In the background, the wind test tower is measuring the wind speed. Visitors to Arbor Day had little doubt that harnessing wind power in the area is a possibility!

The white faced calf on the right is the biggest calf farm officers have ever seen. It's the youngest; but bigger than the rest.

Most kids can't resist the calf statue at the entrance to the Petting Zoo. The Johnsons had to stop; their mom says they had a wonderful time.

This is Mary. She's the cow on your t-shirt! She was born on Christmas Eve several years ago and needed to be bottle fed to survive. Be sure to visit Mary soon!

Pint-sized Pony! This is one of our mini horses. Most kids can relate to these little guys. They like to graze and trot inside their pen by the road.
