The
Plymouth County Sheriff's Department employs a diverse group
of people with a variety of skills and experience.
Our
largest area of employment opportunities is for correction officers
who work inside the Plymouth County Correctional Facility. They
make up approximately half of the work force. Many have military
experience or a college degree, often in criminal justice. However,
this is not a job requirement. Those hired as COs attend the
Basic County Correction Officer Academy before actually manning
a post.
Some
officers move on to specialty assignments within the facility,
such as maintenance, central control, booking, laundry &
property, while others can obtain positions within the K9 and
transportation units.
The
Correctional Facility also has a medical unit that employs nurses,
human service workers and educational staff.
Periodically,
additional employment opportunities may arise for administrative
support personnel, reserve deputy sheriffs, and computer technicians.
The
department is looking for hardworking and dedicated individuals
interested in a career in corrections or law enforcement. Basic
requirements for employment are:
- 19
years of age
- A
high school diploma or an equivalency certificate issued
by the Massachusetts Dept. of Education
- A valid
driver's license (class 3)
- Pass
a drug and psychological test
- Pass
a general and criminal background check
