AIDS EDUCATION ON THE UNIT: All inmates are given the opportunity to attend HIV classes, facilitated by Healthcare of Southeastern Massachusetts and funded by the HIV/AIDS grant from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. Classes rotate among the units, usually occurring in each unit every month.

HIV PEER EDUCATION: Inmates are educated on the HIV virus in order to educate other inmates. They give a presentation twice a week in the orientation unit and then rotate to other units daily.

CREATIVE WRITING: this class strengthens the writing skills of the inmates by exposing them to various genres of writing. the inmates write stories of their own after studying the writings of others. Classes are facilitated by a qualified volunteer and meet once a week. A high school diploma or GED is required to participate in this class.

GREAT BOOKS AND FILMS: This class assesses life and other situations through the reading of classic books and then observing how they were made into films. There are discussions and writings about the characters, settings and plots. Classes meet once per week, and a high school diploma or GED is required to participate in the class.

FATHERS TO CHILDREN: The program is an adaptation of the Family Literacy Program. Inmates are given an age appropriate children's book to read while being audio taped. The book and tape are then sent home to their child. The program promotes good communication between fathers and their children. It is funded by a private grant from "Larry's Children Fund." Inmates cannot have an active restraining order to qualify for the program.
