PRE-EMPLOYMENT LIFE SKILLS PROGRAM

This program is funded by the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department. The goal of this twelve-week program is to enhance the inmate’s chance of success in finding worthwhile employment upon his release. The inmates learn how to obtain documents needed to search for a job and how to fill them out properly (i.e. social security cards, driver’s license), skills and interests inventories, resume writing, interviewing skills, and money management.

PARTNERSHIPS

Since many of our inmates return to the city and towns of Plymouth County without jobs or places to live, the Sheriff’s Department has entered into partnerships to provide aftercare services to ex-offenders. Brockton Private Industry Council, through their Gateway Program, offers assistance in the following areas:

• Job Training
• Job Search Assistance
• GED
• College Entrance
• Find Housing
• Transportation
• Food Stamps
• Mass-Health Insurance
• Counseling and Other Support at a Downtown Drop-in Center

Partnerships have been entered into with the following agencies:

• The Plymouth Area Coalition for the Homeless
• The Social Security Administration
• Department of Revenue Child Support Enforcement Division
• South Shore AIDS Action Coalition
• The Salvation Army, who will provide temporary housing as well as job search assistance
• South Shore Woman’s Center

The Sheriff’s Department is grateful to have the commitment of so many departments and programs to join in the ongoing effort to reintegrate ex-offenders back into our communities
