On Saturday October 6th, Plymouth County Sheriff Joseph D. McDonald Jr. joined CarePacks of Weymouth, a non-profit group that has sent almost 4,000 care packages to US Soldiers overseas, to include in its latest shipment 50 tactical vests no longer in use by the Sheriff’s Department.
Izaiah and Zachariah Zooleck stand in front of their father Officer Zooleck and Sheriff McDonald. They are outfitted in two of the 50 tactical vests the department donated to US soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan. CarePacks.org of Weymouth funded the shipment.
When new gear arrived at the Sheriff’s Department for its tactical response team, Officer Ron Zooleck a member of the team and former solider didn’t want to see the older, good quality equipment locked in a closet. Sheriff Joseph D. McDonald Jr. knew right away donating the equipment through CarePacks would be a positive move. “I am proud and happy that tactical equipment used to protect our Correction Officers will now be used to help protect our fighting men and women.” Along with the tactical gear, CarePacks shipped toiletries, socks, batteries, and items that give the soldiers a sense of home overseas. Sheriff McDonald holds up one of the donated vests. Behind, Officer Zooleck hauls out the gear to display at the Braintree Rifle and Pistol Club.
CarePacks founder Steve Doyle readies his troops. Dozens of volunteers are about to stuff care packages for US troops; first Doyle thanked Sheriff McDonald and Officer Zooleck for the department’s generous and speedy donations.
CarePacks volunteers wait for the go-ahead to start packing. Volunteers walk the tables stuffing their boxes with different toiletries, food items, socks and surprises- like water balloons and clotheslines.
