Anger Management

The Anger Management Program is a four-session series designed to teach skills that will promote successful anger management. Each session is outlined as follows:

Session I – Understanding Anger – Introduces and defines anger as an emotion, teaches the differences between constructive and destructive anger, discusses the typical causes of anger, and provides an opportunity to explore early learning experiences with anger.

Session II – Anger Response Styles – Discusses the three typical anger response styles, helps participants identify their typical anger response style, and outlines the benefits and risks of each.

Session III – Anger Management Skills – Equips participants with concrete skills for effective anger management by teaching communication skills, outlining steps for conflict management, highlighting skills for constructive arguments and providing an opportunity to practice new skills through role-playing.

Session IV – Anger Management Techniques – Provides practical techniques for anger management by teaching participants how to identify hidden anger, outlines methods of stress management, and introduces the exercise of journal writing.

Each of the four sessions is approximately two hours in length. A maximum of twelve participants is recommended in order to provide sufficient time to administer and process the experiential portions of each section.
