Basic Computer Skills
BASIC COMPUTER SKILLS: This class runs in conjunction with the ABE, Title I, and SPED classes. Hardware, software, computer skills, Windows 98, Excel & Word are explored. Introduction to keyboarding is also taught and practiced.
OFFSET PRINTING: Students learn the concepts and theories of offset and other types of printing, as well as the history of printing, paper, and bindery. One night a week is devoted to the classroom work, and the other nights are centered in the shop with hands-on-training in press operation, and bindery work.
CONTINUING OFFSET PRINTING TRAINING: This program is a continuation of
the Offset Printing class. This program is all on-the-job training.
Inmates are exposed to a “real life” print shop atmosphere, working on
various projects, and working under deadlines. The scope of the program is
widened to include pre-press, typesetting, camera work, stripping, and
plate making, as well as job tracking, plate and flat filing.
CULINARY ARTS: This class teaches inmates institutional methods of food preparation and sanitation. It includes on the job training as part of their employment in the kitchen.
HORTICULTURE PROGRAM: This program affords inmates an opportunity to learn all the skills of seeding, cultivation, planting, flower arrangement, agriculture and hydroponics. The program includes both classroom and “hands-on” experience.
