BASIC COMPUTER SKILLS: This class runs in conjunction with the ABE, Title I, and SPED classes. Hardware, software, computer skills, Windows 98, Excel & Word are explored. Introduction to keyboarding is also taught and practiced.


• Federally funded by the Perkins Grant through the DOC to PCCF


• Class meets for ten hours per week

 

OFFSET PRINTING: Students learn the concepts and theories of offset and other types of printing, as well as the history of printing, paper, and bindery. One night a week is devoted to the classroom work, and the other nights are centered in the shop with hands-on-training in press operation, and bindery work.


• Funded by Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department


• Class meets three times per week for thirteen weeks

 

CONTINUING OFFSET PRINTING TRAINING: This program is a continuation of the Offset Printing class. This program is all on-the-job training. Inmates are exposed to a “real life” print shop atmosphere, working on various projects, and working under deadlines. The scope of the program is widened to include pre-press, typesetting, camera work, stripping, and plate making, as well as job tracking, plate and flat filing.

• Program meets five days per week


• Inmate must satisfactorily complete the Offset Printing class

 

CULINARY ARTS: This class teaches inmates institutional methods of food preparation and sanitation. It includes on the job training as part of their employment in the kitchen.

• One time class

 

HORTICULTURE PROGRAM: This program affords inmates an opportunity to learn all the skills of seeding, cultivation, planting, flower arrangement, agriculture and hydroponics. The program includes both classroom and “hands-on” experience.


• Funded by Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department


• Program meets daily for thirteen weeks


• Only for inmates who have a non-violent criminal history, also known as “trustees”


OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY IN CONJUNCTION WITH OFFERED PROGRAMS
: A mandatory class given to all inmates interested in program services or work. The class focuses on the need to be cautious and aware when working. This instruction is offered in the various work programs.
