NEW CALVES AT PLYMOUTH CO. FARM
Welcome to the official website for the Plymouth County Sheriff's Department.
In 1633, colonial ordinance created the role of the Constable. In 1655, the General Court of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts ordered, "There shall be a house of correction provided in each county at the counties charge."
These edicts began the Office of Plymouth County Sheriff in 1692, with its first Sheriff John Bradford. Through the centuries, the role of the Sheriff has slowly evolved to not only serve as the public jailer but also to oversee the safety of the public at large. Some of these programs for community safety and well-being are the same across all of the counties in the Commonwealth, but there are unique initiatives that each Sheriff brings to the community.
The thirtieth Sheriff for Plymouth County is Joseph D. McDonald, Jr., and through his leadership new programs are being explored to provide additional and better services inside of the jail and to the public.
